"Faith, Medicine, and a Beating Heart" – Temple Priest Undergoes Emergency CABG at Dr. Rela Institute

CABG-OFF PUMP SURGERY

A Devotee’s Crisis

A fifty-eight-year-old priest who served in one of the local temples in Chennai spent his life devoted to God offering prayers, helping people in finding spiritualism. But one morning during the pooja, he was struck with chest pain followed by extreme discomfort all over his body and profuse sweating.

His family members took him to the nearby hospital where ECG was performed and he was diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome. Further, his Coronary Angiogram also showed triple vessel disease with extensive Left Main blockage – putting him at increased risk of a massive heart attack.

He was immediately sent to the Dr. Rela Institute & Medical Centre for further treatment. The cardiac surgery team led by Dr. Srinath and Dr. Senthil Kumar got him ready for the surgery the same day.

Despite the complex condition, they immediately performed a beating heart surgery (off pump CABG), bypassing the blocked arteries.

The team worked for hours until the successful completion of the surgery. In the post-operative period, he was taken care of by the cardiac and critical care team in the Intensive Care Unit.

Day by day he started improving. Day 1 – He was able to sit up, Day 2 – He was able to walk with support and moved to the ward. He was discharged on Day 6 with a new lease of life.

When asked about his feelings, he said,” God has many hands, and this time his hands healed me by taking the form of Dr. Srinath and Dr. Senthil Kumar.”

The priest is now back to his routine in the temple but with a lot more regularity and caution. The team at Dr. Rela Institute & Medical Centre takes immense pride in having helped the man in his hour of need and continues to provide similar services to all patients with equal care and devotion.
