Hope from the Heart of a Village

10-Year-Old Girl Receives Life-Saving Heart Transplant with CMCHIS Support

Surgery Performed by Dr. Srinath Vijayasekharan and Dr. Senthil Kumar

In a quiet village in Tamil Nadu, a 10-year-old girl was fighting a silent and dangerous battle. Diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy, her condition was critical. She could no longer run, play, or even walk short distances without exhaustion. A heart transplant was her only chance — but for her family, even the idea felt beyond reach.

Her parents, with limited means and endless worry, turned to the one source that offered real hope — the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS). With its support, they were able to access world-class cardiac care at no cost.

She was brought under the care of Dr. Srinath Vijayasekharan and Dr. Senthil Kumar, one of India’s leading heart transplant surgeons, known for his expertise in high-risk pediatric and adult transplants.

“She came to us in heart failure, but full of courage,” said Dr. Srinath.

“Thanks to the CMCHIS scheme, we could focus entirely on giving her the best possible care, without her family worrying about the cost.”

Soon, a matching donor heart became available. In a meticulously performed heart transplant, Dr. Srinath & Dr. Senthil Kumar and his team gave this little girl a new heartbeat — and a new life.

Today, she is back in her village, attending school, playing with friends, and dreaming big — all because she had access to timely, compassionate, and expert care.

“Healthcare is a right, not a privilege — and this story proves that,” says Dr. Srinath.

“With the right support, even the most advanced treatments can reach the remotest corners of our state.”
