He also handle the responsibilities for

1. Pre-Transplant Evaluation and Education

Coordinate and conduct initial assessments of transplant candidates for heart, lung, or combined transplantation.

Organize multidisciplinary evaluations (cardiology, pulmonology, surgery, psychology, nutrition, etc.)

Educate patients and their families on the transplant process, surgical risks, immunosuppressive therapy, lifestyle changes, and long-term follow-up.


2. Donor Management and Organ Allocation

Collaborate with organ procurement organizations (e.g., NOTTO/TRANSTAN) for donor alerts, organ matching, and logistics

Coordinate donor evaluation and confirm organ suitability with the surgical and ICU teams.

Manage transportation and preservation of donor organs, ensuring compliance with time-critical protocols.


3. Surgical Planning and Coordination

Facilitate the scheduling of heart/lung transplant surgeries with cardiothoracic surgeons, anesthesiologists, and operating room staff.

Ensure all necessary clinical, laboratory, and imaging workups are completed prior to surgery.

Act as a liaison between all departments involved in transplant surgery.


4. Post-Transplant Care and Monitoring

Monitor patient recovery in collaboration with ICU and transplant physicians.

Schedule and manage follow-up appointments, biopsies, pulmonary function tests, and medication monitoring.

Provide education and emotional support to patients and families during the post-operative period.


5. Administrative and Regulatory Compliance

Maintain detailed and confidential patient records from referral to post-transplant follow-up.

Submit required data to national/international transplant registries and governing bodies.

Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and institutional transplant protocols.


6. Multidisciplinary Team Collaboration

Participate in transplant candidate selection committee meetings.

Communicate regularly with pulmonologists, cardiologists, surgeons, transplant nurses, social workers, dietitians, and pharmacists.

Coordinate care plans tailored to each patient’s needs.
