"Faith, Medicine, and a Beating Heart" – Temple Priest Undergoes Emergency CABG at Dr. Rela Institute

A Devotee’s Crisis

A 58-year-old temple priest from Chennai, had spent his life in devotion—offering prayers, performing rituals, and guiding spiritual seekers. But one early morning, as he prepared for his daily pooja, he suddenly experienced severe chest pain and profuse sweating.

His family rushed him to a nearby hospital, where an ECG and initial assessment confirmed an acute coronary syndrome and his Coronary Angiogram revealed critical triple-vessel disease, including severe left main artery blockage—placing him at extremely high risk for a massive heart attack. He was immediately referred to Dr. Rela Institute & Medical Centre for advanced cardiac care.

The cardiac surgery team led by Dr. Srinath and Dr. Senthil Kumar mobilized without delay. Within hours, he was wheeled into the operating room.

Despite his fragile state, the team performed a beating-heart (off-pump) CABG, meticulously bypassing the blocked arteries to restore blood flow to his heart.

The surgery lasted several hours and was completed successfully. The post-operative period was carefully managed in the intensive care unit by the skilled cardiac and critical care teams.

In the days that followed, his condition steadily improved. By day 1 he was sitting up, By day 2 he was walking with support and shifted to Ward, He was discharged on post-operative day 6, with a strong heart and renewed hope.

When asked how he felt, he smiled and said: “God works through many hands. This time, they were the hands of Dr. Srinath and Dr. Senthil Kumar.”

He has since returned to his temple duties, slowly resuming his daily rituals with greater caution and care. His story is a testament to the power of timely intervention, expert surgical care, and the fusion of faith and science.

The team at Dr. Rela Institute & Medical Centre is proud to have played a part in his healing journey—and continues to serve patients with the same urgency, compassion, and excellence.
